Eye Examinations

Our optometrists, Dr Peter and Dr James Merrington, are available in store most days of the week to test your eyes. Both a healthcare as well as a prescription test will be conducted during your eye examination. Further tests will also be organised where necessary.

Both optometrists aim to keep you informed as much as possible of any eye conditions you may or may not have, however referrals to Ophthalmologists may also be required for further analysis before any details can be made certain.

The following services are available as required or as requested:

Glaucoma exam, intraocular pressure test, cataract exam, slit lamp exam, dialated fundus exam, macular testing and visual field screening.

Digital Retinal Scanner

We are now proud to announce the arrival of our second Digital Retinal Scanning machine at our Niddrie store! That means we now have one at both our Gisborne and Niddrie stores, and this amazing technology allows us to check for all kinds of hidden nasties, including Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, Retinal Tears, Diabetic Retinopathy, Raised Blood Pressure, and many more eye diseases.

Contact our Niddrie or Gisborne stores to make an appointment today

Visual Fields

Our Niddrie practice has its own Visual Field machine, which can be bulk billed to Medicare. Unlike some other specialists, we are able to keep this cost to a minimum for you, if you bring along your Medicare card.

Onsite laboratory

Our laboratory at our Niddrie practice, with 80% of required lenses kept in stock, this means we are able to ensure a rapid turn around in the production of your glasses. If your lenses do need to be ordered for any reason, we will keep you in touch with their progress, and then prioritise your glasses as soon as they arrive.

We also have a one hour fitting service available on most frames and lenses, meaning we can prepare your new lenses, and then organise a time that suits you to transfer your new lenses into your old frame. This means you wont need to be without your glasses for much longer than an hour.*

*Please note, we take all care but no responsibility for patients own frames. Please see in store for further details.

Free glasses cleaning and service

Once you have purchased your glasses from us, we have a lifetime guarantee on the cleaning and service of your glasses. This means that any minor adjustments to the shape of the frame or any cleaning needed to keep the frame looking good, will be at no cost to you for the life of your glasses.

Ongoing care

We consider the health of your eyes the most important element to our business, so once you collect your glasses, you will be receiving a call from us a few weeks later to see how those glasses are shaping up. We will talk you through any concerns you may or may not have, and help you along the way to getting used to your new prescription or frames.

Every two years, or less if necessary, we will contact you to remind you that its time for your next appointment. This will either be via mail or a courtesy call, and while your prescription may not feel like its changed, for health reasons we always recommend you attend an appointment every two years.
